Aerials Gymnastics ClassesAerials Girls Gymnastics Teams

Welcome to the Aerials Gymnastics Girls Team Web Page.

The Colorado Aerials is widely considered to be among the best girls teams in the United States. They have acheived this recognition by consistenly performing well at state, regional and national championships since 1990. Aerials has also distinguished themselves at the international level of competition by placing eight girls on the US National team that have represented the USA in 14 international competitions including three World Championships, two Pan American Games and the 1996 Olympic Trials.

We can think of no better way to teach girls important life lessons than through the medium of competitive gymnastics.
Our goal is for each girl on our team to experience success in her competition career. We have the most experienced coaching staff in the state of Colorado and one of the finest training facilities in the world, and Aerials’ have a very active and successful booster club. Combine these qualities: experience, facility, support, and you know why the Colorado Aerials are among the most well known and successful girls’ gymnastics clubs in America.
Welcome to our team! Please check out our Accomplishments link while you are on our site.

Aerials Gymnastics Classes USA Gymnastics

Our Gym TOPS program is designed for our talented and gifted young girls, ages 6 to 8, to be developed for competition in the future on our USAG or EAGLES teams. We have divided our Gym TOPS program into four levels, each level is designed to build on the previous level of skills, flexibility, strength, and dance.
The girls in our Gym TOPS program are selected from our classes based upon their gymnastic skills, physical strength, desire to improve, and “coachability”. Girls can request to tryout for this program by contacting the north gym office at 719-260-1893 and ask for Kathy Vigil.

Gym TOPS, Level 1 & 2 – Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday is an option for more strength and training time.

Gym TOPS, Level 3 & 4 – Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday is an option for more strength and training time.

Aerials Gymnastics Walking to 2 Years

Our Level 5 team has won more than 8 state titles since 1990 and has had countless individual state champions. However, we are most impressed that we have accomplished this success training only 11 hours a week! Why so little training compared to most other gyms? Three reasons: 1) our entry standards for the team are high which means if you make our Level 5 team you are already pretty good, 2) we have the expertise to know exactly how to train girls at this level and prepare them for Level 6 without wasting time, and 3) we do not want to burn the girls out, Level 5 is only the beginning of their competitive career.

Our team schedule is subject to change so please call our north gym location at 719-260-1893 for current times and prices.

Colorado Aerials have an excellent Booster Club that is very active in raising funds to help with the expense of competing. Parents of our USAG team members are required to participate in our Booster Club.

3 to 4 Years Aerials Gymnastics

Our Level 6 team has won 10 state titles since 1988 and has had over one hundred individual state champions. Our team staff has remained amazingly consistent over the years and we have had the only Elite level program in Colorado during that same period so now you know why we have such success at this level. Our entry standards for the team are high which means if you make our Level 6 team you are a good gymnast.

One of the major goals for each of our Level 6 girls is to prepare them for optional competition. We do this by training specific optional skills all year long. Years of experience has taught us that the longer you wait to teach girls giants on bars and back handspring series on beam, the harder it is to teach them when they are older. So we don’t wait. We do not want Level 6 to be the end of your daughter’s competitive career.

Our team schedule is subject to change so please call our north gym location at 719-260-1893 for current times and prices.

Coaches: Zac Baits (with Aerials since 1995), assisting Zac is Kathy Vigil, Jason Baits, and Jaycie Phelps-McClure.

4 to 5 Years Aerials Gymnastics

Some seasons we combine our Level 7 and 8 teams for training depending on the size of these teams. Typically, but not always, our Level 6 girls are prepared to skip Level 7 and compete at Level 8. There are, however, times that it is best to compete girls at Level 7 first. We will do what is best for each individual girl in our team program so that can she can have success in competition.  Our Level 8 program has won three state titles since 1998 and consistently finishes in the top seeds in the state.

One of the major goals for each of our Level 7 & 8 girls is to prepare them for Level 9 and 10. We do this by training specific optional skills that will lead to the advanced skills she will need at the higher levels. Multiple twisting skills, release moves, acrobatic series on beam, and Yurchenko style vaults are introduced and trained at these levels to help them have future success.

6 to 11 Years Aerials Gymnastics

Our Level 9 teams have won 9 out of the last 10 state championships! We consistently dominate at this level because of our experience and commitment to train girls for success on a national level. Colorado, as a state, is not known for its many high level teams so we travel the country and compete against the best programs in the nation. We have had numerous Regional and National champions and are our Level 9 teams rank consistently among the best in America.

One of the major goals for each of our Level 9 girls is to prepare her for Level 10, or Elite, or a college career. We do this by training specific skills that will lead to the most advanced skills she will need at the higher levels.

Coaches: Kathy Vigil (with Aerials since 1988), Jason Baits (with Aerials since 1993), and Jaycie Phelps-McClure (with Aerials since 2001 and a member of the 1996 US Olympic gold medal team).

Back Hand Springs Aerials Gymnastics

Since 1995 the Colorado Aerials Level 10 team has won every state championship except 2003, where we finished second. We dominate this level for a few reasons: 1) our coaches are some of the most experienced in the country and has produced numerous gymnasts that have gone on to the Elite level, 2) we have a world class facility to train the highest level of skills safely, 3) we have tremendous parent support, and 4) we have a large number of students to select from to find the best of the best.

One of the major goals we have for our Level 10 girls, if they have the ability, is to receive a college athletic scholarship. Not all of our graduating seniors receive a scholarship, but many have. Please check out our College Scholarships link to see the success we have had over the years.

Teens 12+ Aerials Gymnastics

Aerials started an Elite program in 1991. Since that time the Colorado Aerials have been virtually the only girls’ Elite program in the state. Every year we have a group of girls that are training for the Elite level or competing at the Elite level. In 2007 Aerials’ Alicia Musser placed 4th on the vault at the USA Championships Junior Division. Alicia became the 8th girl we have qualified to the USA Championships.  Aerials’ Elites have represented their country and our club in many international competitions:

1992 Mexico Olympic Festival, Mexico (Doni Thompson)
1992 Commonwealth Games, Canada (Doni Thompson)
1993 Catania Cup, Italy (Doni Thompson)
1994 Golden Sands, Bulgaria (Kristy Powell, Doni Thompson)
1994 USA vs. Romania, Boston (Kristy Powell, Doni Thompson)
1995 American Cup, Seattle (Kristy Powell, Doni Thompson)
1995 Pan American Games, Argentina (Kristy Powell, Doni Thompson)
1995 World Championships, Japan (Doni Thompson, Theresa Kulikowski, Kerri Strug)
1995 Trophe de Marsielle, France (Theresa Kulikowski)
1996 American Cup, Ft. Worth (Kristy Powell)
1996 World Championships, Puerto Rico (Kristy Powell)
1996 Sr. Pacific Alliance, Malaysia (Theresa Kulikowski)
1997 USA vs. China and Romania, Cincinnati (Theresa Kulikowski)
2001 Sr. Pan American Games, Mexico (Natalie Foley)
2001 World Championships, Belgium (Natalie Foley)

The Elite level is a tremendous commitment on the part of the gymnast, the family, and our gym. We are committed to training girls at the Elite level for those that have the ability.

One of the major goals we have for our Elites is that they receive a college athletic scholarship. Please check out our College Scholarships link to see the success we have had over the years.

The Colorado Aerials became known as one of the nations’ top gymnastics teams in the early 90’s. Owners, Tom and Lori Forster developed some of the best Junior Elites in the country and drew attention to Colorado Springs as a top gymnastics city.

Since their first state championship in 1988, the Colorado Aerials have won more girls state championships and had more state, regional and national champions than any other club in Colorado during that same time period.

The trophies and titles are nice, but we do no think that is the best way to measure a
gymnastics club. “What type of people are your gymnasts becoming?”
That is a great question to ask to measure the Tom Forster coaching Keri Strugquality of any program.

We have some amazing young ladies that have graduated from Aerials and gone on to great things. Lawyers, doctors, engineers, mothers and teachers are only some of the jobs that most of our alumni athletes are very successful at.

We are proud of our successes, our athletes, our coaches and our parents group. Thank you for allowing us to coach your daughter!

Aerials Accomplishments

Teens 12+ Aerials Gymnastics

One of our greatest accomplishments is having athletes stay with our program long enough to compete through their High School years. There are over 70 NCAA colleges and universities that have gymnastics programs and they recruit gymnasts from private clubs like Aerials Gymnastics. Gymnastics scholarships are extremely difficult to receive. The number one recruiting avenue for collegiate coaches each year is the Junior Olympic Level 10 National Championships. The best gymnasts in the country gather in one place and compete in one weekend every Spring. It is an amazing competition and Aerials has not only had gymnasts in the meet the past 14 years, we have had numerous national champions! As of 2007, 32 Aerials team members have received gymnastic scholarships. These girls, in total, have received over $3 million in free education!
